Duration: 120 minutes
Max. Number of Participants: 20
Summary:
The free course is co-organized with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg (Germany) and aims to explain to participants the importance of DNA analysis in personalized medicine. Course participants—biology teachers or students of teacher training programs—will receive educational materials with four activities that can be directly used in classroom teaching and one activity for use outside the classroom. Additionally, they will receive a free EMBL certificate of completion.
Participants will learn to:
- Interpret gel electrophoresis results used for DNA fragment separation
- Use BLAST and ClinVar tools to identify specific mutations
- Explain how mutations affect protein structure and function
- Determine an appropriate therapeutic approach based on a detected mutation
- Highlight the importance of genome sequencing in personalized medicine
